500 Word Short Story

She was with her attendants in the dressing room. They were making last minute adjustments to the most beautiful wedding gown the city of St. Louis will have ever seen. The bride's name was Danielle. She was the daughter of a reputed mobster named Frankie Vassar. The groom was a successful arms dealer from Miami who went by the single name of Steele. The marriage was a sham. Set up by her father to gain access into the lucrative turf of Steele and his arms dealing business.

Fifteen minutes before the ceremony was to begin, the real show began. As expected, Danielle received a text on her phone, supposedly from her fiancee. She took a quick look. Her eyes were glued to the images that came across the screen. The message was not from Steele. It was about Steele.

Image after image of her soon to be husband in compromising positions with several young girls came across her screen. It was quite obvious the young girls were under age. The message that accompanied the images was short and to the point. “Thought you might want to know what you're about to get yourself into.”

Danielle played her part well. She covered her mouth with her hand as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing, dropped the phone and ran from the room. Her father, who was in the room, picked up the phone and looked at the message “I can't believe this.”

“What are you talking about, Frankie?” Asked his brother, Dominique.

“I'm talking about Steele. I'm not letting him get away with this.” He handed the phone to his brother.

Dominique took a quick look. “You go take care of your daughter. I'll take care of Steele.”

He set the phone down where others, curious enough to look, would see the message. He also left the room.

Frankie met up with his daughter. “All looks good. Things are moving along just as we planned.”

The ceremony was the event of the year. At the lavish party that followed, Frankie and Steele conducted business. Frankie forced Steele into a deal that gave is daughter an equal share of his arms dealing business. He would run it for her.

As the evening progressed, the chief of police received an untraceable text. The doctored images of Steele had been sent to him along with other incriminating evidence.

Investigators looked into the situation and found enough evidence to file charges. A week later Steele was arrested on multiple counts of sexual misconduct with underage children.

Steele knew the evidence had been planted, but by whom he wasn't sure. He knew his lawyers could beat the trumped up charges.

Frankie had set everything up perfectly. Including buying off Steele's lawyers. Steele wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon. Danielle would take full control of the arms business while Steele served time in Federal prison. Frankie and Family had the marriage annulled.

They had successfully increased their holdings. It was all too easy.
