SHORTY'S LAST RIDE
Joel T. Bailey

Shorty was a bull rider
Altho he stood only five foot two
He could've been most anything
But this is what he wanted to do

He rode in all the big rodeos
And placed in most of them
To some of the boys it was work
But it was all fun to him

On the circuit was a big red bull
The cowboys called the devil's son
No one wanted to draw him
For he had crippled more than one

At Cheyenne Shorty drew him
But it didn't worry him none
He said he'll know who's boss
When this ride is done

The crowd was cheering loud
When Shorty nodded for the gate
It never entered his mind
That this ride would be his fate

He was thrown on the second jump
Then the bull hit him in his side
A hush came over the crowd
For this would be Shorty's last ride
