"Cowgirl's Prayer"

Once upon the land down South
'neath the Lone Star sky,
a lonely cowgirl rides
as she hangs her head to cry.
She removes her hat in honor
in her native untamed land,
looking over the canyon
a yellow rose held tightly in her hand.
As the cowgirl peered toward heaven,
"Howdy Lord", she began to pray,
"I've been ponderin' for all the answers,
and wondered, well, there's somethin' I gotta say".
"Could you give our Soldiers silver spurs
to keep their horses runnin' strong,
and a cowboy hat of armor
so the life they live is long?.
"Could you light up the stars at night
so they will never see the dark,
brightly shining o'er the plain
so their trail is always marked?"
"And Lord, keep them ridin' fences
so they never lose their way,
a tin star placed upon their hearts
would give them courage every day".
"Provide them golden lassos
so they may band together as one,
and welcome the enemy fireside
where all lay down their guns."
She quietly dismounted
as a tribute to them all,
placed her rose on hardened ground
for those who heard the call.
She started off down the trail
when somethin' else came to mind,
she turned her horse around and said
"Lord, would you be so kind?"
"One more thing I need to ask,
when you send my cowboy home,
make darn sure he knows we're Texas proud
in this land where buffalo roam."
