The Eulogy

The Eulogy

By Dallas McCord

Three cowboys died in a wild stampede.
It was one hell of a wreck.
Poor 'ol Charlie was stomped to death,
Slim and Buster broke their necks.

All three met St. Peter
Just outside them pearly gates.
St. Peter said now tell me boys,
what do you think about yer fate?

They're gonna be havin' your funerals
in just a couple of days,
and they'll be talkin' at yer eulogy's
what would you have them say?

Charlie said he'd like to hear
How he had a real good life.
How his kids all loved and missed him.
How he had a loving wife.
How his brands were always honest
How he worked hard for his pay
How his pards are lookin' forward
to joinin' him some day.

Slim said Pete, I'll tell ya
what I'd like to hear them say.
That I lived my life as a cowboy.
That I did it the cowboy way.
That I threw a loop like poetry.
That I sat a real good saddle.
That I'd never go out and look for a fight
That I'd never back down from a battle.
That I did'nt cheat much at poker
That I could live off'n the land
That I always shared what little I had
That I was a real top hand.

Buster said I've lived a good life
and the good Lord knows I've sinned.
What I want to hear at my eulogy is

LOOK, HE'S MOVIN' AGAIN!
