Rope and Wire 2019 Western Short Story Contest Guidelines

March 1, 2019 to March 31, 2019

Rope and Wire came online in 2006. Since day one we've been working hard to promote the western genre through a variety of avenues. The approach seems to be working. Over the years, steady growth in the number of high quality western authors and western short stories have attracted many loyal followers.

Short stories are a great way to introduce western genre readers to western authors they may not have heard of.

To that end, Rope and Wire is once again holding a western short story competition.

The competition creates an opportunity for the top five winning authors to have their work promoted by Rope and Wire and helps western genre authors gain some valuable name recognition.

The competition is open to both novice and established authors.

How it works: For each $15 dollar submission, the prize amount jumps $10, $3 and $1 respectively. One dollar of each submission goes to cover contest administrative costs. There is the potential of some rather large prizes. First place winner is guaranteed a minimum of $100. First place prize will begin growing after the first ten entries.

Contest Code of Ethics

CLMP’s community of independent literary publishers believe that ethical contests serve our shared goal: to connect writers and readers by publishing exceptional writing. Intent to act ethically, clarity of guidelines, and transparency of process form the foundation of an ethical contest. To that end, we agree (1) to conduct our contests as ethically as possible and to address any unethical behavior on the part of our readers, judges, or editors; (2) to provide clear and specific contest guidelines—defining conflict of interest for all parties involved; and (3) to make the mechanics of our selection process available to the public. This Code recognizes that different contest models produce different results, but that each model can be run ethically.
