Beyond the Western
Cameron Daily. Chaser, masher, womanizer, was on the hunt. Another unsuspecting beauty was in his sights. He could see her from across the room. It was almost painful for him to take his eyes off her. He was mesmerized.
Her long auburn hair flowed down her back, tantalizing him as it hid what her backless dress was meant to reveal. She was slim in all the right places and well endowed in others. She carried herself with the moxie of a woman who knew how to get what she wanted.
Her wide smile, a light touch of the fingertip, a slight flip of her head, all directed toward the man she was conversing with. Cameron wanted to be that man. He wanted to meet this woman in the worst way.
It looked as if he might be too late. “It could be an impossible task,” he thought. The thrill of the hunt appealed to him.
Cameron stalked the woman while flirting with other guests, slipping his phone number to several of them. All the while keeping a close eye on her.
Whenever they made eye contact, he would give her a quick wink and a nod to let her know he was interested, and to see what type of response he would get in return.
He managed to make eye contact on several occasions. She ignored him each time. Cameron thought she was playing with him. Acting disinterested. Ignoring him. He kept it up to the point of being slightly obnoxious.
After an hour, Cameron saw his opening and made his move. He introduced himself. She told him her name was Samantha. They made small talk. She was polite. He was vain. For twenty minutes he bragged about himself and his fancy new Hummer, thinking he was impressing her. She on the other hand, was becoming more nauseated by the minute. She needed a polite way out.
“Would you hold my glass for me?” She asked. “I need to go freshen up.”
“You are coming back, right?” Cameron quipped with a smile.
“Of course,” she replied with a smile of her own.
Another woman was in the ladies room. She started talking to Samantha about this creepy guy named Cameron, and how he had forced his number on her and several other women at the party. Samantha asked if she could have it.
“Are you serious?” The woman asked.
“He’s been coming on to me too. I think I have a way to get him away from both of us.”
The woman had to dig the slip of paper out of the trash. She gladly handed it over. Samantha made a quick call and asked a friend to do her a favor. She gave him Cameron’s number and asked him to find a creative way to get him to leave the party. They chatted for a minute, then she went back to the party. Cameron was still waiting for her with drink in hand.
As she and Cameron talked, Cameron’s phone rang. “Excuse me for just a moment. I’m expecting an important call.”
He answered. A voice on the line replied, “ Thought you might like to know, someone is trying to steal your Hummer. Better get out here before it disappears. Cameron turned pale. He didn’t even bother to ask any questions like who was on the line? how they knew it was his Hummer? How they got his number? He just hung up, excused himself and quickly left the party. Samantha watched him leave, smiling. Her friend would make sure he didn’t return.
Spotting the woman she had talked with in the ladies room, she raised her drink to her. The woman responded as she watched Cameron sprint out the door.
They both enjoyed the rest of the evening.
