Cowboy Poetry and Western Verse

The Snow Storm
Douglas Polk

snow piling up,
cattle left to roam,
cards in the bunkhouse,
warm for now,
but on horseback the minute the snow stops,
so savor the warmth,
and everything dry,
even the humor,
it will all end too quickly,
when cattle rounded up,
 and accounted for.

Snow Day
Douglas Polk

a snow day,
but boss wants us,
to earn our pay,
so in the barn repairing tack,
while Shorty shovels the stalls,
wishing the snow would stop,
so I can have some peace and quiet,
out on the range,
away from Shorty,
and his mouth,
stories of this girl and that,
and all kinds of stuff,
that just ain't true.
